The library has several staff available at each location who provide notary public services. This service is free of charge.
It is recommended that you contact your local branch to either confirm a notary is available or to make an appointment. See Locations & Hours.
A notary is authorized by the Commonwealth of Kentucky to verify the signatures of everyone who signs a document. They ensure that all signers are who they say they are, are aware of the contents of the document being signed, and are not signing against their will. They can also administer certain oaths.
Staff do not provide legal advice, help prepare a document, or interpret the legal document; nor do they notarize anything other than a signature on a legal document.
Please bring your current correct ID with you for identity verification.
Your ID should include the following:
- Your photo
- An accurate physical description
- Your signature
Example of acceptable ID includes: state issued driver’s license, official state-issued ID card, military ID, passport, etc. Any ID must be current; no expired identification will be accepted.
