Free
movie downloads!!
New
library service offers growing list of videos
The library
patrons can now add free video downloads to the list of services
available through the library’s online branch.
MyLibraryDV
will be available here online starting Saturday, March 1. This unique
video-on-demand service gives card holders round-the-clock access
to hundreds of hours of DVD-quality programming, including cooking,
travel, health programs, classic movies, foreign films and more.
There are some
basic software requirements, and a broadband internet connection
is needed. Downloading is simple:
- Click on
the MyLibraryDV button on the bookplace.org home page
- Install
the download manager (this one-time step takes 2-4 minutes)
- You’re
ready to go!
MyLibraryDV
will run on a Mac as long as Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Media
Player 9 are installed. Patrons must have their card number available
to access the site.
The site currently
offers more than 500 videos, including popular programming such
as Antiques Roadshow and Rick Steves’ Europe.
The classic film collection contains many Academy Award winners.
Up to ten programs can be downloaded at any given time. Each program
has a seven-day checkout period. Programs are automatically deleted
at the end of that time.
MyLibraryDV
joins the two ebook (and eaudiobook) download services the library
began offering in 2006 – OverDrive
and NetLibrary. Those links
are located right next to the MyLibraryDV link on the front.
Both ebook services
have been extremely popular with patrons, which is one of the reasons
the library decided to add the video service.
