When Miners March
April 3 program addresses history
of coal mining in WV

A book that is called the definitive history of the coal miners of West Virginia and the reasons why it took more than 50 years to get published will be discussed at a special program at the library.

The discussion of “When Miners March: The Story of Coal Miners in West Virginia” by William C. Blizzard takes place at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at the Main Branch, 1740 Central Ave.

Blizzard wrote the book in the early 1950s, but politics kept it in a box for more than half a century. Wess Harris, president of Appalachian Community Services, which recently published the book, will talk about what kept it unpublished, as well as the book’s significance to recent events in coal mining.
