Service starts Sept. 5 at Main, Summit branches
New computers and software coming soon

A free tutoring service for local students returns to the library in September. The Homework Help program, now in its fourth year, is offered at both the Main and Summit branches on Wednesdays that local schools are in session. Sept. 5 is the first one.

The library offers the service in cooperation with Ashland Community & Technical College. A professor from ACTC, specializing in math, is at the Main Branch each week. Library staff is available to help at Summit, and can also help with other subjects at Main.

The locations and times are:

  • Summit Branch, 1016 Summit Road (across from Boyd County Middle School), from 3:30 until 6 p.m.
  • Main Branch, 1740 Central Ave., from 4 to 6 p.m.

“Our faculty members are once again glad to participate in such a valuable project,” said John McGlone, director of public relations at ACTC. “Working with students is a rewarding experience, in addition to helping prepare the next generation of students for college and beyond.”

The program is designed for middle and high school students, but all ages can get help. The tutors will not do homework or projects for the students, but rather will help them figure out how to do it themselves.

Additional tutors in all subjects are needed. For more information about the program, or to volunteer to be a Homework Help tutor, call Amanda Gilmore at (606) 329-0518, ext. 1130.
