Movie based on Philip Pullman novel

The library will host a free showing of the movie, “The Golden Compass,” on Thursday, May 1. The movie starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Main Branch, 1740 Central Ave.

“The Golden Compass” is an Oscar-winning fantasy film based upon Northern Lights, the first novel in Philip Pullman’s trilogy, His Dark Materials. It is rated PG-13.

Admission is free. Some refreshments are provided, and additional snacks can be purchased for a small cost.

Upcoming movies include “National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets” on May 20; “Over Her Dead Body” on May 28; and “Charlotte’s Web” on June 2.
