Bubble Gum Day
Feb. 14, 2008

The library hosted a special portrayal of a former slave as part of its Black History Month celebration. In “Miss Dinnie Thompson: No Ordinary Woman," Erma Bush portrays Thompson, a former slave who later helped immigrants in Louisville adapt to American life. She was never rich or famous. But, as a representative of all the black Kentucky women who worked hard to make their way in spite of prejudice and poverty in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Miss Dinnie Thompson is anything but ordinary.
