Project: Trading Spaces Continues

Anyone who has been in the library over the past few months has seen some things going on around the Main Library. Rooms in disarray, movers taking things out, guys with tape measures, things like that.

What’s going on is Project: Trading Spaces. It all began with two seemingly simple comments: “Let me get someone from Reference to help you in the Computer Room” and “Genealogy needs more space”. This led to “How can we best utilize the space in this building to improve service?”

Work is going on now in the fiction and reference areas: new ceiling and lights. After work finishes there, they will do new ceiling and lights in the media area, and then in the main lobby area (right around the holidays). Plans after that call for the circulation desk to move to the center of the lobby, early next year.

Here are pictures from the latest work. (To see pictures from earlier work in the project, click here.)
