Youth Services
Supervisor
Boyd County
Public Library District has reopened the search for a dynamic, creative,
energetic, and organized person to lead the library’s youth
services into the future. This position will be responsible for
administration, planning, supervision, and operation of the Youth
Services Department and for guiding district-wide programs and services
to encourage reading, viewing, and listening of library materials
in an effort to create lifelong readers.
We are
looking for someone who:
• Has
a vision and will involve staff in the planning, implementation,
and evaluation of departmental goals
• Exhibits a genuine interest in people of all ages, especially
youth
• Understands the interests and needs of contemporary youth
• Puts patrons and their information needs first
• Has a willingness and desire to try new ways of providing
services
• Handles changes with ease and grace
• And most importantly, wants to have fun and make it fun
for the public (and the staff)
Qualifications
• Desire
to have fun.
• Exhibiting energy, creativity, and enthusiasm toward youth
of all ages
• Experience with the accepted principles and practices of
library work, including knowledge of standard reference resources
and materials for youth.
• Physical ability to provide programming of all types, both
indoor and outdoor
• Ability to talk and hear spoken English in person and by
telephone (reading English is important too).
• Willingness to seek out new methods and principles then
incorporate them into existing practices.
Experience
and Training
• Finding
a qualified candidate with a Masters in Library or Information Science
with emphasis on youth services and minimum of two years of supervisory
or three years of professional librarian experience would make us
deliriously happy
• But we will consider candidates with a bachelor’s
degree and a minimum of six years of progressively more responsible
library experience, education, and training.
• Knowledge of children's and young adult literature.

• Must
possess the ability to deal tactfully with all types of people
• Must demonstrate patience, tact, a cheerful disposition,
and enthusiasm in all situations
• Possess current, valid driver’s license and have use
of personal vehicle
• Demonstrate problem-solving and decision-making techniques.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, plus nights and
weekends, including Sundays
• A sense of humor would be helpful
