Did you know that the Boyd County Public Library provides access to thousands of magazines, poems, newspaper articles and other information sources through its online databases?

And in some cases, you don't even have to come to the library to have access. If you have a home computer and a library card, you can log on using your card number or passwords provided by the library.

Following is a list of the currently available databases. All our databases are accessible in-house at our branches (click the specific "In-House" button in the list below). Some also are accessible remotely; click the Remote button and you'll be prompted for your library card number.

Provides full-text magazines and journals covering every area of business.

Consumer Health Complete

The richest collection of consumer health information available to libraries worldwide, providing access to full-text consumer health periodicals.

Care Scout

Database designed to help answer question relating to Eldercare. This database also helps you locate Nursing homes, Hospice, Assisted Living and Home Health. Also included are reports, statistics, rankings for these locations.

HeritageQuest Online

U.S. Federal Census records. More than 25,000 fully searchable family and local history books. Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Application Files. Signatures of and personal identification data about depositors in 29 branch offices of the Freedman's Savings and Trust Company, 1865-74. PERSI (the PERiodical Source Index - a comprehensive subject index covering more than 6,500 genealogy and local history periodicals written in English and French since 1800).

Home Improvement Reference Center

Home Improvement Reference Center™ is the definitive online tool for home improvement assistance, including: maintenance, remodeling, electrical work, plumbing, wood projects, outdoor improvements, decorating home & garden, etc. This comprehensive resource contains 24 major reference works in full text with more than 10,000 images (none found available online anywhere else). Additionally, the database contains full-text magazines (e.g. This Old House). Remote access is available for library patrons for use from home.

Kentucky Virtual Library

The Kentucky Virtual Library -- Kentucky's information source. Find Books, articles and more. Kentucky Statistics, Virtual Reference Desk and the Kentuckiana Digital Library. KYVL also provides access to Grollier Encyclopedia, OCLC Firstsearch, Proquest, Biographies by HW Wilson and the International Index to Music Periodicals. To use this resource, you'll need a user ID and password.

LearningExpress Library is a comprehensive, interactive online learning platform of practice tests and tutorial course series designed to help patrons—students and adult learners—succeed on the academic or licensing tests they must pass.

Literary Reference Center

The Literary Reference Center is a highly graphical interface intended for public, academic and high school libraries. The primary goal of LRC is to assist high school and undergraduate English and Humanities students with homework and research assignments of a literary nature.

Net-Library

NetLibrary provides access to your library's eContent collection. eContent is the digital version of books, journals, and database content. You can access your library's eContent 24 hours a days, seven days a week. To access an account from home you must first create your account at one of our three locations.

Points of View Reference Center

Points of View Reference Center™ is a full-text database designed to provide students with a series of essays that present multiple sides of a current issue. The database provides 200 topics, each with an overview (objective background/description), point (argument) and counterpoint (opposing argument).

Salud en Español provee reportes completos basados en evidencias y fichas de datos relacionados a todos los aspectos de la salud y el bienestar. Reportes específicos por tema que cubren todos los aspectos de la salud, dan información general importante en relación a enfermedades, afecciones y procedimientos de diversos tratamientos.

Salud en Español provides comprehensive evidence-based reports and fact sheets in Spanish on all aspects of consumer health and wellness. Topic specific reports covering all aspects of health offer valuable overviews on diseases, conditions, procedures and various treatments. The content found in this database includes a diverse collection of health related themes: first aid, infant/ child care and illnesses, alternative medicine, aging and wellness.

Sanborn Fire
Insurance Maps

Founded in 1867 by D. A. Sanborn, the Sanborn Map Co. was the primary American publisher of fire insurance maps for nearly 100 years. This database covers Kentucky cities insured by Sanborn. Note: Patron should call the genealogy department (606-329-0090) for ID and password.

Small Engine Repair Reference Center

This comprehensive resource contains 400 reference books in full text with original photos and illustrations that guide the user through every job. The database often contains more than 25 years of an engine model, and offers assistance in providing routine maintenance, such as tune-ups and brake service, as well as extensive repairs involving engine and transmission disassembly.

Student Research Center

EBSCO's Student Research Center (SRC) makes it easy for students to search by keyword or by topic to find the most useful search results. Results can be easily sorted by source type - magazines, reference books, photos, flags, etc.
