There are lots of great government websites that provide free information on a wide variety of topics!
One such website is the Office of Investor Education and Advocacy. They have all types of resources to help you make good, sound financial decisions.
One of their specialized guides is: A Guide for Seniors - Protect Yourself Against Investment Fraud. Laid out in clear, easy to understand layman's terms this guide will help any senior make sound investment decisions. Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free program) is required to read the guide online.
Other publications available from the SEC are available by following this link.

Spend some time with award-winning author Neil Gaiman on April 12, at 6 p.m. at Main. BCPL is taking part in a live stream video conference with the New York Times bestselling author of such works as "The Graveyard Book," "Coraline" and "American Gods." Gaiman, who is honorary chair of National Library Week 2010, will talk about the importance of libraries and the role they play in a democratic society. There will be a question and answer session after his presentation. The program is sponsored by the American Library Association and Jessamine County Public Library.

Were you aware that the Boyd County Public Library has a virtual branch? By going to thebookplace.org you can enter the virtual library and find wonderful resources and many surprises. My favorite surprise on the website is the on-line book club called ‘DearReader.com’.
There are many reasons for joining the online book club. Monday through Friday, a quick 5 minute read is delivered to your email box and waiting for you to peruse with your morning cup of coffee. At the end of Friday’s read, it will tell you whether the excerpts came from the hard cover or paperback version of the book and the page the read ends on, so you can pick up the book from the library or purchase the book, and know where you left off. There is also a link on the emails to quickly and easily reserve the book from the library.
Every week there is a new book, so if the current book is not one that interests you, the editor/moderator, Suzanne Beecher, encourages you to “hit the delete key without guilt”. Suzanne also has a personal message at the beginning of the read every day. It is like getting a note from a close friend every day.
There is a genre for everyone, including: fiction, business, science fiction, audio, non-fiction, romance, mystery, pre-publication, teen, good news, and horror. On Mondays and Thursdays, Suzanne offers a link to Author Buzz, where she introduces you to 3 or 4 authors and their books. Suzanne also often will hold contests where you can win items of interest to Suzanne (and hopefully to you as well) and once a month, Suzanne bakes homemade chocolate chip cookies for a lucky reader or two.
It is free to join the book club. All you need is an email address and 5 minutes. To join the book club, click here. The online book club gives you a commitment free way to try books you may not have picked up otherwise and introduces you to new authors. What a great way to reintroduce yourself to reading and get to know a new book, a new subject, a new author or a new friend. Dear Reader also provides us with monthly newsletters - check them out here.
Remember, book clubs are meant to be fun, and stress reducers. And, as Suzanne Beecher ends her columns, remember: “It’s so good to read with friends.”
