It's probably not often you hear this sentence: "Come to the library and play Bingo!"

But that's one thing we do in February at BCPL - we play our own version of the game, and give a prize to everyone who gets "five in a row."

It's simple to play: just complete the task listed on the square, and have it initialed by a staff member. You can "bingo" vertically, horizontally or diagonally. After you do, take your card to a staff member and select your prize. Then get another card and start again. See? Simple.

Prizes include pens, magnets, mood pencils and rulers, stress balls, READ silly bands and mouse pads. There's no limit to the number of times you can win.

So, what's on a Library Bingo card? There's a Free Space, of course, but instead of letters and numbers, it's full of all the cool stuff you can do at BCPL. Some will take just a second or two; others a bit longer.

It's a win-win situation. Now, when you do all your regular library "stuff" (and probably discover a few things you weren't aware of along the way), we will reward you with freebies. What could be better?

Bingo cards are available at the Main, Catlettsburg and Kyova branches now through Feb. 29.

Are you a busy person? Is it hard to find time to read an entire book?

Then, the upcoming "Short & Sweet" program at the Kyova Branch on Thursday, Feb. 9, might be just the thing for you! It's designed to give a "quick taste" of literature to busy people.

The program starts at 6 p.m. at the branch, located in the Kyova Mall across from Elder-Beerman. We'll discuss two short stories and enjoy some sweets. It's that simple.

Chess players of all ages and experience levels will enjoy a new monthly program at the Kyova Branch.

It's called Chess for All Levels, and it's on the 4th Thursday of each month, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. It is ideal for beginners and advanced players, and everyone in between. The more experienced players will help those just starting out.

The Library will provide chess boards, but players are also encouraged to bring their own. Snacks will be provided.

The elevator at the Main Branch will be out of service for about three weeks starting around Feb. 6, while renovations take place.
