Save money on pizza, ice cream, pet supplies and even limo rides in September when you flash your BCPL card. About 25 local buisnesses are offering discounts from Sept. 1 to 30 to anyone who shows their library card. For a complete listing of the business partners and their discounts, pick up a bookmark at the Ashland, Catlettsburg or Summit Branch. The complete list is also in the public file repository on this website, or you can also see the complete list on the library's Facebook page by clicking here.

In these tough economic times, everyone needs a library card. Sure, you can get discounts in Sepember, but you can also save money all year with your card. Now, more than ever, Americans depend on their libraries and librarians for financial information, computer and Internet access, free programs and entertainment, and, of course, books and movies. Parents may find it harder than ever to make sure their children have everything they need for school. Luckily, the most important school supply of all doesn't cost a thing. It's a library card.

So, get your's today. New card holders get a bag…

Boyd County Public Library will begin construction soon on a new branch at the Kyova Mall on U.S. 60, now that the parties have agreed to and signed a 10-year lease.

Board President Michael Campbell and mall officials signed the lease late last week, and Library Director Debbie Cosper picked up the keys to the 6,200 square foot space on Friday.

“We are thrilled to be opening a branch in the Kyova Mall. The increased space will allow for a state-of-the-art branch, expanded services and a place to do much more programming,” Cosper said. “We are positioning the library to serve the needs of the community for the next decade, or longer.”

“This is a great opportunity for the community, the library and the mall,” said Chrissy Dillow, the mall’s general manager. “The library branch furthers our move toward becoming a lifestyle center in that we can offer more than just retail to our community.”

A branch in the mall means more convenience for the consumer/library patron. “We are putting a library branch right in their…

August 31 is the final day of the Library's year-long food collection drive to benefit River Cities Harvest and the local agencies it serves. The collection effort began last August, and the total stood at more than 300 pounds earlier this summer. We hope we can make it to 500 pounds by the end of this month!

"The food donated by library patrons has helped make a difference in the lives of many area families," said Lucy Davis, spokeswoman for River Cities Harvest.

There is no fine forgiveness tied to this campaign. Food may be dropped off at any branch, during regular hours. Food items most needed by local churches, shelters and other organizations that RCH serves are: cereals, boxed pastas & potatoes, canned chicken & meats, peanut butter, soups, canned & dried soup beans, baked beans, corn muffin mixes, tuna and spaghetti & sauces.

The new reference desk at the Main Branch will be installed this week! Because of that, the periodicals & reference materials will be closed to the public on Wednesday, Aug, 18. Reference staff will be working at the circulation desk and can still answer any of your questions. And, if you would like to see that day's newspaper, just ask at the circ desk. Thank you for your patience.
